When we bring up neuromuscular electrical stimulation, most pet owners are wary at first. It sounds scary, but it's actually an effective way to help pets control pain. To work, we use electrical currents to accelerate healing, minimize muscle deterioration, and build muscle mass during inactivity. This is just one of the many therapy options we provide at Healing Hands 4 Paws.
Known commonly as e-stim, this process works by applying electrical impulses to the muscle. This can stimulate contractions. The application is done with small electrodes, which are placed on the affected area. Then, we run a light current through the electrodes.
Most of the time we use neuromuscular e-stim to prevent muscle degradation. However, we can also use transcutaneous e-stim to support pain management. At Healing Hands 4 Paws, we use e-stim for orthopedic and neurological issues. This could include orthopedic surgery, bone fractures, and spinal cord injuries. We may also recommend it to control swelling after surgery.
Is e-stim right for your pet? You can talk to the experienced team at Healing Hands 4 Paws. We'll review your pet's case and make the best recommendations for recovery.
At Healing Hands 4 Paws, we've seen real results with neuromuscular electrical stimulation. While we recommend this procedure on a case-by-case basis, here are some common reasons we use it:
